The Early Bird

Short stories authorship while not a honed skill rather than from rants from stories some can learn.

Upon a freedom world recollected experiences with ample embellishment for missing parts the following short story is based. For story simplification many persons were omitted. Rather than as a solo adventure with cohorts the described activities often would become. But on freedom worlds solo behavior also is possible is allowed. Parents, school, schedules, teachers are not inflicted. When wanted what is wanted is learned is done.

The Early Bird

During second year independent living was attained. Near limitless outdoor adventures followed. Many fun skills were mastered. Vehicle piloting also was mastered.

During third year in water consideration duration elapsed. Diving, sailing, swimming were mastered. But even more is still desired.

From the warm spring sun and cool air a relaxing contrast becomes. Up while gazing high above birds and bird persons seemed floating? Is that possible?

Under dome when again the day dream ended, but the curiosity beckoned.
"Domecomp, query. In the sky do persons float?"
"Nak. Aprox.
By hot air balloon persons float.
By aerocraft persons fly."

The hydrodynamics, the controls, the flight response while learning the day suddenly elapses. Aft meal sleep with soaring dreams become.

Aft awakening sans delay,
"Domecomp, oval wing kite flight first person simulate."
The dome and walls to sky fade. The aeroplane is projected. In the cockpit area while sitting the virtual controls with hands are grabbed and move.

"Groovy!"
"Nak."
"Domecomp altitude 1 kilometer, airspeed 150 kilometers per hour, attitude 0, bank 0, roll 0, best weather, noon, flight simulation begin." Too easy too fun while thinking while playing half the day elapses.

For controls two simple sticks exist. Forward, back, left and right the sticks tilt. By the left stick the left canard and left rudder are controlled. By the right stick the right canard and right rudder are controlled.

Left and right when tilted rudders move and yaw is induced. Fore when pushed the attitude is lost, airspeed is gained, altitude is lost. Back when pulled the attitude is gained, airspeed is lost, altitude is gained.

The left stick when pulled the right stick when pushed a clockwise roll becomes, but adverse yaw also becomes. Both sticks in the roll direction when moved the rudders move and the adverse yaw is canceled. Coordinated flight turning while tricky was learned.

The rudders when opposed yaw is abstained and airspeed decreases. For landing air speed reduction is essential. Many times landing while simulated a never short, sometimes long, on the grass skirts the touchdown became. With flight simulation as compared the landing simulation seems less interesting.

On the wings control surfaces do not exist. On the canard 4 surfaces fully tilt. The vertical surfaces as rudders behave. The horizontal surfaces as elevators and ailerons behave. The vertical surfaces to canard ends attach. A |__| similar shape is approximated. At the aeroplane tip afore the leg well the canard is positioned. Centered on the lower wing the pilot while seated the aeroplane is nose heavy.

The canard when stalled, attitude was lost and airspeed was gained. A single wing stall to induce spin since nearly impossible was simulated and the spin by rudder recovery learned. Nearly every critical flight mistake was simulated and surmounted. To safety the importance and duration was accorded.

Weather and wind effects also were learned and simulated. By rain when pelted decent while expected from the cloud above huge lift could be generated. Storm are dangerous.

Another day elapsed. Two days only elapsed and the confidence was overflowing. Tomorrow, flight will be attained was certain.

The square black surface aerodrome seemed further than anticipated. By excited anticipation adrenaline pumped a jogging pace tacitly became. Arrival soon followed.

"Hail!"
"Hail!"
"Flying is desired!"
"Perfect day. Welcome."
"Oval wing kite location please?"
"First time? Okay then. This way."
"Sweet, just like the CBT simulation."
"Get in."
"And?"
"Lift it."

From inside the frame while grabbing the aeroplane was just barely lifted. "Heavy! Why lift?"
"The landing gear does not steer."
"Of course."
"To the aerodrome up wind corner push.
To the far corner turn. With the wind direction aim. Then launch.
On the grass skirts land.
To ascend the aerodrome thermal ride.
The ground smoke when on
the thermal wind distortion
can be estimated.
Cloud lift, ridge lift is fine.
Do not land outside.
Outside the aerodrome thermal only descend.
Orbit clockwise.
With wind direction land.
The windsock indicates.
Afore launch the control surfaces check and lock.
Have fun."

To the up wind corner while pushing the CBT lore if not attained from that briefing would even half be recalled or comprehended was wondered. Upon arrival the sweat from dripping the air seemed chilly. From the cockpit the goggles, helmet, parachute, and wind slicks were removed and worn. Into the 5 point harness while strapping adrenaline surged the heart pounded. Such excitement when felt as a dream how could life ever be surmised?

The control surfaces perfectly respond. The pedals to perfect distance adjust. Into takeoff position controls lock. The ground and sky are clear. The pedals pump. The speed slowly accumulates. Any moment now the lift off while anticipated into the bumpy grass skirt the aeroplane sinks. The seat wheel break auto engages. The aeroplane stops. Epic disappointment follows. With tears and sweat eyes burn.

A different person by running approaches.
"Don't worry! It happens!"
"What can be done.
How can lift off be attained?"
"With strength and tenacity of course!
But first hydroplanes why not try?"
"Hydroplane?"
"On water hydroplanes fly."
"Okay. Thanks."

With CBT another 2 days elapse. At the lake hydroplaning is attempted.

The lift off speed to attain the pushing while difficult the hydrofoils when surfaced the pushing is easier. The sail boat and hydroplane are entirely different.

Hydroplanes feel like a bicycle on snow skis that dreams of becoming an aeroplane. Hydroplanes workouts are intense! The pedal rate if not sustained into the water the hydrofoils sink.

The hydroplane controls and the aeroplane controls are similar. For the two hydrofoil two sticks exists.

Fore if tilted a hydrofoil pitches front and into the water dips. Back if tilted a hydrofoil pitches back and from the water rises.

A slow turn to attain one hydrofoil raise. A rapid turn to attain one hydrofoil dip. By parasitic drag the hydroplane heading changes. A hydrofoil when dipped the adverse roll also is canceled.

As spring departs the fun hydroplanes are mastered. The thrill subsides. Some height, strength and stamina are attained. Flight aspirations since burning the oval wing kite CBT again is attempted.

From CBT, but not simulation, the auto gear shifting was learned. A sufficient speed when attained the gear tacitly shifts. 3 gear shifts aft attainment for takeoff sufficient speed is attained. Months ago the first shift was not even attained. Will tomorrow differ?

A perfect day dawns. To the aerodrome a leisurely walk begins. For pedal pushing strength stamina are conserved.

In an almost day dream state the preparation duration elapses. The up wind corner perfectly aim launch position is attained. A deep inhale and exhale aft completion the pedal mashing begins!

Go! GO! Click shift. 1/4th the aerodrome is behind. Harder! Faster! Push! Click shift! Half the aerodrome is cleared. By the wind's fiery tongue the face is licked. Goggles down! The slips stream sings. PUSH, FASTER, HARDER! Click shift. More than half the aerodrome was spent. Feet like bricks legs while cramping the toe cages help as leg strength depletes.

The wing buffets. The seat wheel bounces. That is the sign! Sticks grab! With thumb flicks the control locks release! As if alive to neutral position the sticks moves! Smoothness becomes. The aeroplane lifts.

By the ground as if a hard push was given the aeroplane by meters leaps. A 30 degree bank is performed and the aerodrome thermal is re-entered. In thermal a counter clockwise circle begins. Like an invisible escalator high into the sky the aeroplane rides.

Insect and bird sounds fade. Ears pop. The slipstream becomes louder. Like distilled water the colder air tastes pure. The wind burned face feels soothed. While banking the slipstream sings. A bird's eye view is attained. To toy sized every person every structure shrinks. The land below seems round.

2 kilometers altitude when surpassed by the cold air shivers are solicited. On the ground summer while approximated in the sky winter is approximated. The aerodrome thermal since lost into the sky the ride since complete the dance can begin.

Barrel roll, dive, loop, split S, ballistic ascent, hammer head sky dance is approximated. From the G forces and altitude euphoria and laughter were solicited. Level flight again when attained a stall is attempted. The canard drops. The stall is resisted.

A dive to a positive attitude climb is attained. The canard angle of attack is lowered. The aeroplane slowly pitches forward. The slipstream song fades. The seat bounces and drops. The canards drops. Level flight resumes. Like falling stalling feels.

A hard skid is attempted the canard stalls first. The wing stall since avoided the spin is avoided. Like a maple tree seed, but slower the aeroplane yaws, skids, never falling a steady decent becomes.

By CBT the G force and sensations are not simulated. In the straps while hanging; a negative G while pushing the heart rises adrenaline flows fear sensation is approximated. A totally awake feeling follows. Flying and simulation can hardly be compared.

With another pilot a half kilometer away hand waves are exchanged. The aeroplanes since transparent a quarter kilometer minimum distance suggestion exists. Masters only in formations fly.

With the sky when merged a day dream awakens. Ahead feet extend. Below body and ground are seen. Above the sky is seen. The wings and frames since transparent a vivid view is attained. On a dream floating if possible this moment approximates.

The land looks round. Somehow the horizon feels lower than anticipated. The clouds while higher like companions now feel. The tall mountains like hills seem.

The altitude is quickly spent and relief is urgently desired. A sunshower rainbow while contemplated the potential offense solicitation seemed better abstained.

200 meters up and 1 kilometer out while skirt aligned the approach begins. Too quickly the skirt approaches. The attitude decease. The rudders fully oppose. A scent like freshly cut grass invades. 0 attitude is set. 3 ... 2 ... 1 As if an irritated equine the seat kicks. Kick, bounce, kick, bounce, kick.

The last half meter since stalled a hard landing became. Not even 1/3rd the skirt is traversed. The experience and simulation differed.

A person rushes toward. "Brilliant landing. Okay?"
"Yeah, but nearly a splash down."
"Above stall speed land.
By the grass the roll out is rapidly slowed."
"Thanks. Next time will do.
The landing seems faster than anticipated."
"Most noob say so.
Next time afore the skirt begins aim and dive.
Half opposite rudder on approach.
0 attitude afore landing full opposite rudder apply.
The aeroplane while slowly sinking the air speed sustain.
On the top third grass skirt touchdown is ideal.
Better fast than stalled."
"Definitely! What a day! Goal accomplished!"
"Congrats. Afore departure to the tiedown the aeroplane please push."

The face while washing the new look was noticed. The cheeks, forehead, nose rosy red glow. Whitish cracked lips seem chapped. The look while semi attractive the touch is painful. Next time sunscreen and windgell will be worn.

The next noob's experience should be better. About flight while excited about takeoff and landing the proper importance was not accorded.

From mistakes more since often learned for CBT revision skill mastery attainment is not required. Often by noobs half the CBT content is provided. A big contribution is not required. Every bit helps.

When coward how much in life is abstained? The strength when insufficient the failure is solicited. The tenacity when insufficient the success is abstained.

In fear living since not desired by all persons land, sea, and air are conquered. The rationale seems obvious.

Hydroplane skipping was a mistake.
But flying looked like so much fun, and it was.

Courage, strength, tenacity while honed goals were attained. That was important.

In life what is best?
To do as self pleases seems best. Many ideas were contemplated and importance was accorded.
